4 Ways to Beat the Heat this Summer

By July 28, 2017April 11th, 2023No Comments

We would like to wish your family a safe summer! With temperatures on the rise, here are some useful tips on how to stay cool this summer.

1. Water, Water, Water

As you sweat, your metabolism and internal body temperature will increase causing you to feel warm. Hydration is the best way to combat this as water carries heat away from your internal organs and replaces the water you lose through sweat. Alcohol can be extremely dehydrating, so if you plan on consuming alcohol, make sure to supplement every couple of drinks with plenty of water to prevent dehydration.

2. Run Your Fan & A/C

Your A/C system does an excellent job of not only cooling the air but also dehumidifying your home. You can further supplement this by running your plug-in or ceiling fan to get some circulation in your home. The plug-in fan is great because you can bring it almost anywhere, from your patio to the campsite.

3. Avoid Using Your Oven

It’s summer! Get outside, fire up the grill, and make some burgers or hot dogs! If you use your oven or stovetop to cook, heat or steam can circulate through the house, causing the temperature to rise significantly.

4. Cool Treats

Popsicles, slushies, fruits, and vegetables are all cool choices to make for summer snacks! All of these snacks can contain significant amounts of water. Eat lightly during the day as larger, heavier meals require your body to work harder to break your food down. (P.S. “popsicles for cooling purposes” is an excellent excuse to cheat on your diet.)
