Nest Tutorial

So, you’ve gone out and bought a Nest and are on your way to making your home smarter and more energy and cost efficient. What now?

The Nest is a secure device that any homeowner can install within half an hour. Below is a tutorial on how to go from out of the box to installing and ready to use.

 

First, head to this link:

This will get your old thermostat down and your Nest plugged in and mounted on the wall.

When mounted and turned on, your Nest will then guide you through a few simple questions to help it learn more about your home.

Use the Nest’s turning ring to choose the different options and select.

 

Language:

Pick a language you wish the text to be displayed in. This can be changed anytime in the settings.

 

Internet Connection:

Use the dial to select your network’s name. For the password, turn the ring to choose the right character. The shift key will switch between upper/lower case, numbers, and symbols.

 

Location:

Using Wi-Fi, your Nest will try and locate your house, as well as update the time/date and receive weather information from the local area. If you need to input your location manually, that can also be done in this menu.

 

Heating and Cooling:

Select the homeowner option to go through a set of questions about your heating and cooling. The Nest will be able to find out your HVAC system, but a few additional questions will need to be answered. Nest will then show a wiring diagram and make sure all wires were connected correctly, and if not, it will tell you to adjust accordingly.

 

Temperature:

After answering some questions about heating, Nest will ask some general questions about temperature preferences.

 

System Test:

Use the Nest’s system test to make sure everything is up and running.

After completion, download the Nest app and register and add your Nest account so that you can use the app to adjust your Nest from your phone.
